CharityWatch Analysts perform an in-depth analysis of charities' audited financial statements and IRS tax filings, and often review other documents such as state filings, annual reports, and fundraising contracts during their evaluations. Below are select notes that CharityWatch believes may be of interest to donors.

According to the Water.org audit of September 30, 2022 (Note 11, Employee Benefit Plan):

"Water.org has an incentive compensation plan that provides a range of organizational and personal goals to determine incentive compensation per employee. The incentive compensation payment in late December is based upon the finalization of the year's financial results and approval by the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors. As of September 30, 2022 and 2021, Water.org recorded approximately $1,433,925 and $1,335,842, respectively, of accrued incentive compensation expense in accrued expenses on the statements of financial position."

According to the Water.org audit of September 30, 2022 (Note 12, Concentrations):

"Contributions: During the years ended September 30, 2022 and 2021, approximately 36% and 23% of all contributions were received from two donors."

According to the Water.org tax filing for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2022, (IRS Form 990, Schedule J, Part II):

Water.org reports that Gary White, CEO & Co-Founder, received $100,625 in bonus compensation during the 2022 tax year. His total compensation for the reporting period is reported as $443,160. There were 8 other individuals listed with bonuses ranging from $23,106 to $43,085, and total compensation ranging from $163,036 to $279,105 during the period.  

According to the Water.org tax filing for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2022, Water.org reports re: Compensation, Supplemental Information (IRS Form 990, Schedule J, Part III):

Regarding nonfixed payments to officers, directors, trustees, key employees and highest compensated employees (Schedule J, Part I, Line 7):

"Non-fixed payments in the form of a bonus are determined based on personal and organizational performance and the discretion of the Board of Directors."
