CharityWatch Analysts perform an in-depth analysis of charities' audited financial statements and IRS tax filings, and often review other documents such as state filings, annual reports, and fundraising contracts during their evaluations. Below are select notes that CharityWatch believes may be of interest to donors.
Any time an Analysts' Note refers to a charity's Audited Financial Statements or IRS tax form, CharityWatch encourages interested donors to obtain a copy of the referenced documents so that they may view the information in context. Please contact the charity directly to request a copy of any referenced document. Charity tax forms and audits may also be obtained from a number of online databases. |According to the Bat Conservation International (BCI) audit of June 30, 2016 (Note 10, Acquisition of Crescent Hills):|
"During the year ended June 30, 2015, BCI entered into a Memorandum of Agreement with The Nature Conservancy (TNC) for the acquisition of Crescent Hills. The acquisition includes 1,521 acres adjacent to TNC's Cibolo Bluffs Preserve and BCI's Bracken Bat Cave Preserve. BCI agrees to contribute at least $5 million to TNC for funding the acquisition by October 31, 2016. Within 60 days of October 31, 2016, TNC shall convey 760 acres to BCI. If BCI does not provide the entire contribution of $5 million by October 31, 2016, TNC shall convey a reduced acreage that is calculated by multiplying 760 acres by the ratio of the amount of BCI funding contributed to $5 million. A total of $4,724,768 has been contributed as of June 30, 2016."
