Cinco de
Mayo is the holiday that commemorates the date the Mexican army defeated France
at the Battle of Pueblo during the Franco-Mexican War.
It is a
popular misconception that Cinco de Mayo celebrates Mexican Independence Day.
Instead, it honors a single battle during the Franco-Mexican War. Cinco de
Mayo, or May 5th, is the holiday that celebrates the Mexican army’s
victory over France at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862.
Cinco de
Mayo has evolved into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage.
