| On December 17, 2015, the Attorney General of New York announced that a $1 million settlement agreement was reached with the officials of National Children's Leukemia Foundation (NCLF) and their auditor. According to the press release, the former officials of NCLF admitted to financial misconduct and to years of fundraising abuses and misrepresentations, including falsifying audit reports. Through the settlement, NCLF will be permanently closed, and its former officers will be barred from serving as charity fiduciaries and from soliciting charitable funds. | Concerning National Children's Leukemia Foundation (the Foundation): (1) CharityWatch was unable to find an independent audit for the fiscal year end March 31, 2013 for the Foundation. CharityWatch checked the many website sources we typically use but found only the Foundation's tax filing (IRS Form 990) for fiscal 2013; no audit for fiscal 2013 accompanied the Foundation's tax form for its state filings. (2) According the donate page of the Foundation's website as of 8/27/14, the Foundation is "temporarily not accepting donations at this time." (3) The Foundation's registration with the state of New York has been cancelled "because it failed to file its required annual financial reports with the Attorney General's Charities Bureau." As a result, the Foundation is prohibited from soliciting contributions and grants and from engaging in any other charitable fundraising activities in New York (as per the NY AG's website, 8/27/14). |
