CharityWatch CEO, Laurie Styron, to Speak at 2024 Investigative Reporters & Editors Conference

   May 24, 2024

Laurie Styron and Jason Wolf to co-panel session at this year's Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) conference.

Public charities, family foundations, and other nonprofits – including those founded by professional athletes and celebrities – are required to submit financial filings to the IRS and state governments. An investigative sports journalist (Jason Wolf, Arizona Republic) and charity watchdog expert (Laurie Styron, CharityWatch CEO) team up to walk journalists through their in-depth, impactful, and award-winning reporting on nonprofits. The pair will co-panel a session for investigative journalists throughout the country to teach them where to obtain data and how much to trust it, how to navigate roadblocks, analyze charity financial reporting, identify red flags, and follow leads.

CharityWatch regularly partners with journalists on their investigations into charities and the nonprofit sector at large. In addition, this year CharityWatch CEO, Laurie Styron, provided Q&A sessions to student journalists at Stanford University, the University of Missouri, the University of Toronto, and the University of Maryland to aid them in interpreting charity financial reporting.

Like investigative journalism, CharityWatch's work is critically important but difficult to fund. Will you be part of the solution?

As the only charity watchdog in the United States, CharityWatch relies on public support to fund our work with journalists, our research into wrongdoing in the nonprofit sector, and our charity ratings. Your donations are noticed, needed, and greatly appreciated.

Will you help CharityWatch fight the good fight by making a donation today?

Thanks for your help!
