CharityWatch Analysts perform an in-depth analysis of charities' audited financial statements and IRS tax filings, and often review other documents such as state filings, annual reports, and fundraising contracts during their evaluations. Below are select notes that CharityWatch believes may be of interest to donors.

CharityWatch is currently unable to provide a letter grade rating of GlobalGiving Foundation (GGF) due to the nature of the organization's activities during the fiscal year ended 12/31/2020.

In 2020, GGF essentially operated as a pass-through grant-maker, collecting "Project contributions," and then disbursing those contributions "to meet donor expectations," as reported on the GGF 2020 audited financial statements and Schedules F & I of the GGF 2020 IRS Form 990 tax filing.  This "Project" activity comprised the vast majority of GGF's financial activity in 2020. "Project contributions" comprised approximately 98% of GGF's cash contributions, and "Project disbursements" comprised approximately 95% and 90% of GGF's program spending and total expenses, respectively, based on the GGF 2020 audited financial statements.

CharityWatch's methodology is not designed to measure the financial efficiency of a charity whose activity consists primarily of functioning as a pass-through grant-maker. For this reason, CharityWatch does not believe it is fair to publish a program or fundraising efficiency ratio for GGF alongside those of other charities that conduct their own programs, nor would providing such efficiency ratios be meaningful to potential donors.

According to the GlobalGiving Foundation consolidated audit of December 31, 2020 (Note 4, Loan Payable):

"On April 20, 2020, the Foundation received loan proceeds in the amount of $880,000 under the Paycheck Protection Program. The promissory note calls for monthly principal and interest payments amortized over the term of the promissory note with a deferral of payments for the first ten months after the last day of the covered period. Under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act), the promissory note may be forgiven by the Small Business Administration in whole or in part. The Foundation used the proceeds for purposes consistent with the Paycheck Protection Program. The Foundation was granted forgiveness on June 21, 2021."

According to the GlobalGiving Foundation 2020 (GGF) tax filing, GGF reports for Business Transactions Involving Interested Persons three transactions, each involving a "substantial contributor." The reported description of each transaction is: "Substantial contributor paid GGF for advisory services during the year." The reported dollar amounts of the transactions are $216,329, $371,400 and $470,360, for a total of $1,058,089 (IRS Form 990, Schedule L, Parts IV & V).
