Per the Humane Society Legislative Fund's public website regarding a merger with Doris Day Animal League and a name change subsequent to December 31, 2023: "...In September 2021, the Doris Day Animal League merged with and into Humane Society Legislative Fund. According to the Humane Society Legislative Fund (HSLF) consolidated audit of December 31, 2023 (Note 6, Affiliated Organizations): "HSLF is affiliated with, although is not controlled by, the Humane Society of the United States (the HSUS). Under a written agreement, HSLF and the HSUS share certain costs, which include such items as administrative salaries, occupancy costs, insurance and other office costs. The HSUS bills HSLF during the year for these costs. During the year ended December 31, 2023, the HSUS provided grants totaling $3,548,515 to support HSLF programs...As of December 31, 2023, HSLF has no amounts due from the HSUS and had $1,619,462 payable to the HSUS." |
According to the Humane Society Legislative Fund (HSLF) 2023 tax filing, re: the existence of a family or business relationship among officers, directors, trustees, or key employees (IRS Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 2), HSLF reported: "Officers Abi-Hassan, Block, Ciccolo, Corcoran, Frackleton, Flocken, Hall, Paquette, Parra, and Taylor were employed by another organization on whose board directors Atherton, Kangas, Laue, Linehan, McMillen, and Sabatino served. Therefore, these individuals had 'business relationships' with each other - business relationship." HSLF reports having nine voting members on its governing board at the end of 2023, with all nine being independent (IRS Form 990, Part VI, Section A, lines 1a & 1b). |
