Analysts' Notes
CharityWatch's rating of Lupus Foundation of America is based on our analysis of the fiscal 2022 audited financial statements and IRS Form 990 tax filing of the national office (tax ID #43-1131436). These documents do not include the financial activities of the local chapters of the organization. "The Foundation's national network is composed of chapters, regional offices, community ambassadors and local support groups located across the United States. As a united force, the national network supports a nationwide movement to solve the cruel mystery of lupus and improve the quality of life for all people who suffer from its impact. "As separate legal entities, chapters elect their own board of directors and maintain separate sets of financial accounts; therefore, the accompanying [audited] financial statements [of the Foundation] do not include the accounts of the chapters." |
According to the Lupus Foundation of America audit of September 30, 2022 (Note 1 re: Contributed Nonfinancial Assets and Services), the Foundation reports receiving in-kind donated services in fiscal 2022 on which it placed a total value of $1,122,342. Of this amount, an estimated $1,095,529 consisted of donated advertising. [Note: CharityWatch generally excludes the value of in-kind (non-cash) donations of goods and services from its calculations of Program % and Cost to Raise $100. More information on how grades are calculated and the treatment of in-kind donations can be found on the Our Process page.] |
