CharityWatch Analysts perform an in-depth analysis of charities' audited financial statements and IRS tax filings, and often review other documents such as state filings, annual reports, and fundraising contracts during their evaluations. Below are select notes that CharityWatch believes may be of interest to donors.

According to the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation audit of March 31, 2021 (Note 7, Paycheck Protection Program):

"On May 7, 2020, the Foundation received a loan in the amount of $147,689, under the Paycheck Protection Program ('PPP'). The PPP, established as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act ('CARES Act'), provides for loans to qualifying businesses for amounts up to 2.5 times of the average monthly payroll expenses of the qualifying business. The loans and accrued interest are forgivable after six months as long as the borrower uses the loan proceeds for eligible purposes, including payroll, benefits, rent and utilities, and maintains its payroll levels.

"The amount of loan forgiveness will be reduced if the borrower terminates employees or reduces salaries during the six month period. The unforgiven portion of the PPP loan is payable over two years at an interest rate of 1%, with a deferral of payments for the first six months.

"On January 18, 2021, the Company received confirmation from the lender and the SBA that the full principal balance and accrued interest of $147,689 from the PPP loan has been forgiven. The full amount of the gain on forgiveness is recognized in [the] statement of activities."
